Not 2000 and late.

A quick preview of one in a continuous series of very large prints (A1 size approx. 23.4 x 33.1 inches) I've been very slowly working on. Hopefully I'll be able to get them finished in time to sell for the Chrissy hols. I dream of getting them printed onto silk scarves too...

Do you ever get the feeling that there's so much you want to achieve... only problem is there is so little time and so little money? *deep sigh* Ah life. Still there's room for small pleasures. Is it so wrong that I got overly excited about the purchase of a small 15cm metal ruler yesterday?

Also is it wrong that I've developed a small crush on Sheldon Cooper? Yeah, I didn't think so!

Phew. Hehe ok I know it's been super super quiet around here but here is something to break the silence!

A couple of months ago I bought an old gocco on ebay and later (way later) plucked up the courage to put some batteries in it and create my first gocco print.

I started experimenting with sketches I drew that were inspired by the sea snail trails, intricate rock pools/formations and water reflections I saw at a beach in Sorrento (here, here, here and here).

I'm so used to working with endless amounts of colour so choosing just 4 colours was really a challenge, but an exciting one! The metallic aqua was this close to being pale blue and the whole yellow layer was very last minute (pretty much last second). Despite some of the problems (old bulbs... can I get an amen people?) I'm really happy how the print turned out in the end.

I also printed gift tags using the same screens I used for the print.

I updated my shop for the first time (this item is currently unavailable... more news about where it will be available to buy to come!) with this print I've posted about before called 'The Fountain' (you can see closer details here: 1, 2, 3)!

This print was inspired by the fountain in my mother's garden, and the vines, orchids and other plants surrounding it. I love how the colour of the water changes with every season and from day to night (one time it even turned milky white... spooky). Right now because of the intense summer heat the pink Rhododenrons next to the fountain are losing their flowers, some of them are sitting right on top of the water waiting to sink to the bottom.

I'm always curious to know what kind of microorganisms have made it their home. This is what I imagine it would look like if I was small enough to scuba dive in there...

Above you can see pics of their packaging which I was working on today. I accidentally found some paper circles I cut from prints on thin paper I did last year so I'm putting them to good use. I know I haven't sold any prints yet... I guess I got a bit too excited about selling things and my first reaction was to pack the ones that were already printed (also I find packing them very therapeutic).

I didn't have time to take photos of this one before I sent it off, but eh what can you do?

This piece was sent to new store/gallery ValueKing's first exhibition and group show 'First Time Around'. I wish I could've gone to the opening (especially to see Fontaine Anderson's beautiful work) but the show is in Adelaide.

In other news Melbournians travel free before 7am!

Chocolate chip cookie tips! Some reallly handy info about what makes a cookie chewy or crispy. I don't see why anyone would want crispy ones though, chewy goes so much better with a glass of milk no?

Experiments

Some experiments I've been working on/mulling over this week. I can't seem to stop myself when it comes to adding detail. I did promise myself that I'd try to stop for the experiment but it seems (with this Wagashi series at least) that adding detail for the sake of detail can't be stopped!

The W logo I made (for a future print series) in 20 minutes from fresh herbs/sweet pea leaves in our garden. Not sure which one I prefer yet!

After having fun cutting, pasting, and layering I'm starting to believe that every day should be an experiment. :}
